Peter Herbert Jensen

Peter Herbert Jensen (born 28 November 1913 in Göttingen; † August 17, 1955 in Quend -Plage, Nord France ) was a German experimental physicist who worked on cross sections of neutron and particle accelerators.

Jensen studied physics from 1932 to 1938 at the University of Göttingen and the University of Freiburg. He received his Ph.D. in 1938 in Göttingen under Georg Joos. From 1939 to 1945 he was a teaching assistant of Walther Bothe at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg. During this time he was a member of the uranium project, which had the technical use of nuclear fission as a target. In this capacity, he published five articles in the classified as top secret nuclear physical research reports.

In 1943 he completed his Habilitation at the University of Heidelberg. Topic of his habilitation thesis were cross sections of neutrons in neutron scattering experiments. After the war was at the University of Freiburg initially continued teaching assistant of Walther Bothe. In 1947 he was a lecturer there in 1951 then associate professor. During this time he worked on the construction of a Van de Graaff accelerator for nuclear physics experiments. In 1954 he was head of department at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz and associate professor at the University of Mainz.
