Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen

Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen (Russian Пётр Алексеевич Пален / Petr Alekseevich PAHLEN; * 17 Julijul / July 28 1745greg in Palms ( in Estonia ). . † 13 Februarjul / February 25 1826greg in Jelgava. . ), Baron, 1799 applicable to the Count, was a Russian foreign minister under Tsar Paul I, General of the Russian army and 1798-1801 military governor of Saint Petersburg and Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta. He was probably a son of Arend Diedrich of the PAHLEN. From 1799 he was a knight of St. Lazarus Order.

On the night of March 24 (or March 12 old style), 1801, the Tsar was stifled by conspirators from circles of the nobility. Among the approximately 30 conspirators were, besides the Earl of PAHLEN, Catherine II's last lover Prince Zubov ( 1767-1822 ), the Count Walerian ( 1771-1804 ) and Nikolai Zubov ( 1763-1805 ), Nikolai Subows sister Olga Scherebzowa ( 1766 -1849 ), Panin ( 1770-1837 ), General Bennigsen ( 1745-1826 ), de Ribas ( 1749-1800 ), General Uvarov and Guard Lieutenant Colonel Tatischew.

The attack was allegedly carried out with the silent consent of the Tsar's son Alexander, when Alexander I came after the assassination of his father on the throne and PAHLEN then dismissed from military service.
