Peter Mark Roget

Peter Mark Roget (* January 18, 1779 in London, † September 12, 1869 in West Malvern, Worcestershire ) was an English physician and lexicographer.

Roget 's Thesaurus

On April 29, 1852 his work appeared Thesaurus of english words and phrases that 's Thesaurus of the English language rapidly gained importance as Roget. The first edition consisted of 15,000 words. The vocabulary was divided into six classes:

  • Abstract designations
  • Space
  • Matter
  • Intellect
  • Will
  • Feeling

Working

Roget invented the log-log slide rule in 1815. He also developed around the year 1835 which was named after him Rogetsche spiral, a form of self -break contact.
