Peter Millman

Peter Mackenzie Millman ( born August 10, 1906 in Toronto, † 11 December 1990 in Ottawa ) was a Canadian astronomer.

He studied astronomy at the University of Toronto and graduated in 1929. From 1933 to 1940 he was assistant at the David Dunlap Observatory. In early 1941 he volunteered for service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he joined in 1946 the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa.

His main area of ​​work were meteors and meteorites. One of his most successful observation campaigns succeeded him in 1946, when on the night of 9 to 10 October, the meteor stream of Draconids offered the opportunity to spectacular Spektralphotographien.

Honors

In 1954, the J. Lawrence Smith Medal of the National Academy of Sciences awarded him.

The Mars crater Millman and the asteroid ( 2904 ) Millman were named after him.
