Peter of Sebaste

St. Peter of Sebaste (* 340, † 391 ) was the youngest brother of Macrina the Younger, Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nyssa.

His father died shortly after or even before his birth and he was raised by his eldest sister Macrina and lived as a young man in an ascetic community in Pontus, near the community in which his mother and sister lived.

After his brother Basil became Bishop of Caesarea, he consecrated a priest Peter. Peter lived as a hermit until he successor of the Arian bishop of Sebaste Eustatius was 380 and there, like his brothers Basil and Gregory, engaged in the fight against Arianism. However, he was there, unlike his brothers hardly literary activities.

He has completed the Hexaemeron of Basil and wrote an introductory letter to Gregory's treatise against Eunomius.

Peter of Sebaste was like Gregory of Nyssa to the participants of the first council of Constantinople Opel.
