• The Visigoths take their plundering raids in the Balkans again.

Culture and Religion

• Theodosius I, who brought Christianity in the Trinitarian form 380 as the state religion in the Roman Empire, prohibiting all pagan cults.
• Destruction of the Alexandrian Serapeum and all other so-called pagan temples in this city by fanatical Christians at the instigation of the Patriarch Theophilos. With the Serapeum one of the largest collections of ancient literature and science goes up in flames.

• Peter of Sebaste, youngest brother of Macrina the Younger, Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nyssa (c. 340)
