Peter Shannon

Peter James Shannon ( born 1949 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian Ambassador to Austria.

Life

Peter Shannon studied in Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from. Shannon speaks ( other than English ) French and Bislama, a creole Pacific. He is married and has a son.

Prior to his appointment as ambassador to Vienna (July 2006) Shannon held a number of offices in Canberra, among other things, he was the Director of the Division of control of arms trade and nuclear non-proliferation in the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2005).

Abroad, Shannon was among other things an envoy to the Australian Embassy in Paris at UNESCO (1996-1999), as well as High Commissioner in Vanuatu ( 1992-1996).
