Peter Tamm

Peter Tamm ( born May 12, 1928 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist and manager. He is best known as a longtime chairman of the Axel - Springer -Verlag. In decades he carried the world's largest private collection of maritime and naval history together.

Life and work

After studying economics Tamm was in 1948 as a ship editor at Hamburg evening paper that appears in the Axel Springer Verlag, works. He became director of the Ullsteinhaus publisher. From 1968 to 1991 he was Managing Director of Axel Springer AG, until 2008 Publisher and Managing Partner of Koehler / Mittler Publishing Group and the Maritime publishing Hansa.

Since 1958, Tamm has been married to his wife Ursula. The couple has five children and eight grandchildren.

Tamm has been honored with many national and international medals and awards. He received an honorary doctorate from a Swedish University and an honorary professorship in Hamburg. Collection and Museum

Tamm ran until 2008, the non-public institution for maritime and naval history at the Elbchausee in Hamburg- Othmarschen.
