Péter Várhidi

Péter Várhidi ( born May 8, 1958 in Budapest) is a Hungarian football player and coach. He was from 2006 to 2008 coach of the Hungarian national football team. He is the son of Ujpest -TE - club player Pál Várhidi.

Peter Várhidi was as a player at Újpest Dosza, Full - Mavag, Domsöd and the Budapest VSC.

As a coach, he served from 1992 at BVSC, 1994 at Újpest FC, ​​1995 at MTK, later in Székesfehérvár and Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC.

From 2006 he was the Hungarian national coach of the U21. In the same year he was appointed as successor by Péter Bozsik coach of the senior national team. Despite an embarrassing defeat in the European Championship qualifier against Malta Várhidis contract was extended for one year in January 2007. Hungary had no chance in qualifying for participation in the final round of the European Football Championship 2008. Várhidi released in April 2008 from his duties as manager and replaced by the Dutchman Erwin Koeman.
