Peter Watts (author)

Peter Watts (born 1958 ) is a Canadian science fiction writer and a PhD marine biologist. He has published four novels, which he has placed all under a free Creative Commons license.

Career

Watts studied marine biology at the University of Guelph, where in 1980 he Bachelor's and Master's degree earned in 1983. In 1991 he received his doctorate from the University of British Columbia.

In 1999, Watts published his first novel Abyss (Original Title: Starfish ), which he adapted from a separate, originating from the 1990 short story. The protagonist of this novel, Lenie Clarke, Watts did reappear in the three subsequent novels. The novels can be regarded as a trilogy, and are often referred to as the Rifters trilogy; while in the original English version ßehemoth the title: β -Max and ßehemoth: Seppuku have been published in two volumes in 2004 and 2005, they were published by Heyne Verlag in the German version in one volume under the title waves.

In 2006, finally followed Watts ' Roman Blind Flight ( Original: Blindsight ), which is in no substantive connection with his previously published works. Blind flight was nominated for the Hugo Award. 2010 Watts finally received the Hugo Award for his short story The Iceland.

Watts ' works to be translated into German by Sara Riffel. She was awarded the 2009 Kurd - Laßwitz Award for Best translator for the German version of flying blind.
