Petersburg Tram Mechanical Factory

The St. Petersburg Tram -Mechanical Factory ( PTMS ) (Russian ОАО " Петербургский трамвайно - механический завод » ( ПТМЗ ) ) is a Russian manufacturer of trams, based in Saint-Petersburg. The PTMS was founded in 1929 as a car repair workshop for the Leningrad tram transport operation. In the year 1933, the PTMS started in addition to the overhaul work with the design of its own tram car. In the course of its existence, the company was renamed several times, official names were

  • завод since 1929 Вагоноремонтный, ВАРЗ - wagon repair shop, WARS;
  • Since the early 1960s Завод по ремонту городского электротранспорта, ЗРГЭТ - overhaul plant for electric urban transport, SRGET;
  • Since the late 1970s Ленинградский трамвайно - троллейбусный завод, ЛТТЗ - Leningrad tram and Oberleitungsbuswerk, LTTS;

On 17 March 1993, the former state-owned company had been transformed into an open joint-stock company ( Открытое Акционерное Общество, OAO ) and now bears its present name.

Today, the plant tram railcars types LWS -2005 and LM- 2008 mass-produced and developed the new joint car type 71-154 for Metro Tram Volgograd.
