Petit (crater)

5:04

Petit is a small, bowl -shaped impact crater on the eastern edge of the lunar front side, on the northwestern edge of Mare Spumans, south of the crater Townley. The crater floor is flat. Note the strip of bright ejecta in the area, forming a small, up to the Mare Spumans extensive ray system.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the French physicist Alexis Thérèse Petit. Before that, he was designated as Apollonius W.
