Petko Staynov

Petko Stajnow ( Bulgarian Петко Стайнов; born November 19, 1896 in Stara Zagora, † June 25 1977 in Sofia) was a Bulgarian composer.

Stajnow who became blind as a child, trained as a pianist and composer at the Conservatory of Dresden. He was from 1927 to 1941 piano teacher at the State Institute for the Blind of Sofia. In addition, he was from 1932 to 1944 Chairman of the Bulgarian Composers Association for Contemporary Music, 1933-1944 Head of the Bulgarian singers Association and from 1941 to 1944 director of the National Opera. From 1946 to 1953 he served as Music Council of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture.

He composed two symphonies and two symphonic poems, an orchestral suite, a scherzo, a concert and a youth overture, chamber music, choral works, dances, song cycles, songs and folk song arrangements.
