Petr Vorobiev

Pyotr Ilyich Vorobyov (Russian Пётр Ильич Воробьёв; born January 28, 1949 in Moscow, Russian SFSR ) is a former Soviet- Russian ice hockey player and current coach. His son Ilya Vorobyov was also a hockey player.

Career

As a player of Dinamo Kiev Pyotr Vorobyov began his career in the 1967 season / 68th Later he joined the league rivals Dinamo Riga. There, he finished his playing career in 1979 and turned to the work as a hockey coach. In total he played 205 games in the Soviet elite class, scoring 120 goals.

His coaching career began in 1980 at Latvijas Bērzs before he was an assistant until 1989 and from 1989 to 1990 head coach of Dinamo Riga from 1982. Then he went to HK Dynamo Moscow, where he remained until 1992 and assistant in the 1992/93 season was head coach from 1990. 1993 with the Moscow club Russian master. From 1994 to 1996 coached the Frankfurt Lions. He was taken from Lokomotiv Yaroslavl under contract, where he remained until 2001, and again in 1997 Russian title in 1996. From 2001 to 2006 he was head coach at HK Lada Togliatti. In 2005 he won the vice-championship and the 2006 Continental Cup. In 2006 he took over as coach in Moskovskaya Oblast Chimik and managed in parallel, the Latvian National Team at the 2006 World Cup.

For the season 2007/ 08 he was bound Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. From 2008 to February 2010 he was again the head coach at HK Lada Togliatti. Then he again took over the head coaching job in Yaroslavl. In February 2014 he was forced to retire from his position as head coach at locomotive for health reasons.

Besides his activities as a club coach he also belonged to the coaching staff of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. The junior national team, he was responsible for several world championships, winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. In addition, he took over as assistant coach of the men's team at the 1993 World Championships and the 1998 Winter Olympics in part.
