Petroleum Development Oman

Petroleum Development Oman ( PDO ) is a state-owned Omani company that produces crude oil and natural gas and processed. In 1996, promoted ( in oil equivalent ) per day, 589,000 barrels of oil and 376,000 barrels of natural gas. In 2006, sales amounted to 15,316 billion U.S. dollars.

History

The company was formed as a Petroleum Development (Oman and Dhofar ) Ltd. .. The shareholders at that time were: Royal Dutch Shell, Anglo-Persian Oil Company, Compagnie Francaise de Petrole, Near East Development Company and Partex ( Participations and Explorations Corporation). Between 1956 and 1960, was drilled in Oman for oil, but it was not to find any. Except for Shell and Partex the other companies left the country, they sold to Shell ( 95 % stake ). In 1962 oil was still found and 1967 first oil was exported. 1967 bought Compagnie Française des Pétroles 10 % of the shares of Shell and the company was renamed in Petroleum Development (Oman ).

1974 bought the Government of Oman 25 % of the company, and shortly thereafter it increased its stake to 60%. The rest of the shares belonged Shell ( 34%), Compagnie Française des Petroles ( 4%) and Partex ( 2%).

In 1980 the company was renamed as Petroleum Development Oman.

1996 to develop a gas field in Sur decided in Qalhat. 2000 could be exported for the first time LNG.
