Phacochoerus

( Authentic ) warthog ( Phacochoerus africanus)

The Warthogs ( phacochoerus ) are a native to many parts of Africa genus of the family of the Real pigs ( Suidae ). There are now mostly of two types are distinguished: the

  • ( Actual ) warthog ( Phacochoerus africanus ) and the
  • Desert Warthog ( Phacochoerus aethiopicus ).

The ( Actual ) Warthog is the better known and more common species, it is almost all over Africa south of the Sahara is home. The desert warthog is considered rare. It came in two subspecies in southern and eastern Africa, the South African population, however, is extinct.

Until recently, it was only one Warzenschweinart. Recent studies suggest, however, that there are two different types. The differences between the two species are mainly in the construction of the skull and teeth.
