Phạm Gia Khiêm

Phạm Gia Khiêm ( born August 6, 1944 in Tu Liem, Hanoi ) is a Vietnamese politician of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Biography

After graduating he worked from 1968 to 1970 as a university teacher ( lecturer ) worked for Electrical Engineering at the Bac Thai College. He then completed a degree in metallurgy in Czechoslovakia and received his PhD in 1975 for Ph.D..

In the following years he rose to within the government and in 1976 was first head of the Industrial Department of the Ministry of Planning and Investment. After a tenure there as Deputy Head of the Department of Science and Technology, he became head of the Department of Science, Education and Environment. Most recently, he was then up to 1996 Vice Minister of Planning and Investment.

From November 1996 to September 1997 was Phạm Minister for Science, Technology and Environment. Since October 1997 he has been Deputy Prime Minister and was also elected a deputy of the National Assembly and a member of the Central Committee of the CPV.

On 28 June 2006 he was appointed to the government of new Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at the same time as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition, he was also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPV.

In March 2007, he paid an official visit to the U.S. and met there with exiled Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco. He assured to demand the then U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also to worry about capturing the case of imprisoned journalists and dissidents Vũ Nguyễn Bình. In fact, it came on 8 June 2007 to the dismissal of Nguyễn.
