Phạm Tuân

Phạm Tuan ( born February 14, 1947 in Quốc Tuấn, Thái Bình Province, Democratic Republic of Vietnam ) is an engineer and former cosmonaut. He is the first and only citizen of Vietnam, who was in space. Another Vietnamese, the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon native Eugene Trinh, a payload specialist on STS -50, 1968 U.S. citizen.

Life

Phạm Tuan ( in Vietnamese, the surname precedes ) studied engineering and then joined the air forces of the North Vietnamese People's Army. Phạm caused a stir when he succeeded on December 27, 1972 on a MiG 21 of the shooting down of a U.S. B- 52 bomber over Hanoi. For this military success Phạm received the Ho Chi Minh Medal connected with the title " Hero of the Army." In addition Phạm was at the Military Academy of the Air Force, " J. A. Gagarin "posted in the Soviet Monino, where in 1979 he received his degree.

In April 1979 Phạm was taken as a cosmonaut in the Intercosmos program. In July 1980, he flew as a member of the seventh visiting team of the Salyut 6 into space; his shuttle spaceship was the Soyuz 37 For this he was awarded the Soviet Order of Lenin and the award Hero of the Soviet Union. After his landing on 31 July 1980 Soyuz 36 he retired from the cosmonaut corps.

The pilot returned to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and stayed with the Vietnamese Air Force. Meanwhile clothed Phạm the rank of lieutenant-general of the Vietnamese Air Force. Later Phạm Cabinet Secretary for the Vietnamese National Assembly and is currently the Director of the Vietnamese defense industry the Ministry of Defence and Head of the Department of Economics.

Phạm is married and has one child.
