Phạm Văn Đồng

Phạm Văn Đồng ( pronunciation [ fam va ̯ɨn Don ]; born March 1, 1906 in Đức Tân, † April 29, 2000 in Hanoi ) was a Vietnamese freedom fighter and politician. He was Prime Minister from 1955 to 1976 and North Vietnam 1976-1987 Prime Minister of reunified Vietnam.

Life

In 1926, he joined as a student of the Vietnamese revolutionary youth movement of Hồ Chí Minh, which later became the Communist Party of Vietnam emerged. 1929-1936 he was in a French prison. After the revolution in August 1945, he finally was initially Finance Minister, later Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of North Vietnam, 1955 Prime Minister. In May 1954, he led the delegation of the Viet Minh at the Geneva Conference Indochina. During the Vietnam War he took part in peace negotiations with the governments of the U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. After his resignation for reasons of age in 1987, he called repeatedly party and government on the fight against rampant corruption.
