Philemon (New Testament person)

Philemon (Greek and Latin. = " The friendly " ) is a person of the Bible, to which the preserved in the New Testament the Apostle Paul's Letter to Philemon is addressed. Philemon was probably converted to Christianity by St. Paul (Philemon 19) and has him then in the missionary work supported (Philemon 1).

According to legend, Philemon was later bishop of his hometown Kolossai. He is a martyrdom under the Emperor Nero attributed, he is said to have suffered together with Apphia, Archippus and Onesimus in Colossae. On the orders of the governor Artokles he was allegedly beaten with rods while and then, buried up to his waist, stoned.
