Philip Don Estridge

Philip Donald Estridge ( born June 23, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida; † 2 August 1985) known as Don Estridge was an American computer engineer.

Biography

Don Estridge was Head of Development Department at IBM in Boca Raton, Florida, which is " 5150 IBM Personal Computer" ( IBM PC ) developed the on August 12, 1981 placed on the market. Its decisions influenced the development of the computer industry dramatically and caused a huge increase in the number of sold computer. He opposed the conventional strategy of IBM on components from suppliers such as Intel processors. On August 1, the development department for Entry Systems Division was formed where Estridge remained active until March 1985. Don Estridge and his wife died on 2 August 1985 in the crash of Delta Air Lines Flight 191 at Dallas / Fort Worth Airport.
