Philip Eaton

Eugene Philip Eaton ( born June 2, 1936 in Brooklyn ) is an American chemist (organic chemistry).

Eaton studied at Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in 1957 and from Harvard University with a master's degree in 1960 and his doctorate in 1961. 1960 he was Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and in 1962 at the University of Chicago, at the in 1972 he received a full professorship.

Eaton belonged to the group, in 1964 the synthesis of the molecule exotic Cuban managed a carbon cube. In 1999 he synthesized octanitrocubane with Mao - Xi Zhang, a Cuban with nitro groups at every corner, which is a high explosive.

In 1986, he received the Humboldt Research Award and he is Arthur C. Cope Scholar. From 1963 to 1969 he was Sloan Fellow. He was from 1965 to 1972 and from 1983 consultant at DuPont, Dow Chemical. Since 1981, he also conducts research for the U.S. Army.
