Philip Florinus of Sulzbach

Florinus Philipp of the Palatinate -Sulzbach (* January 20, 1630 in Sulzbach, † April 4, 1703 in Nuremberg) was Count Palatine of the Palatinate and Imperial Field Marshal.

Life

Philip was the youngest son of August von Pfalz- Sulzbach (1582-1632) from his marriage to Hedwig (1603-1657), daughter of Duke Johann Adolf of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp.

He began his career in the Lorraine army and then came to Sweden. There he fought under Charles X Gustav in Prussia. In 1659 he lost the disastrous Battle of Nyborg on Funen against the Danes and their allies. He had to save himself by nocturnal flight. After the death of the Swedish king, he went to Venice and fought on their behalf against the Turks, according to internal power struggles, he left Venice in 1662, and went into Imperial service. So it was in 1664 as a field marshal and commander of the imperial cavalry at the Battle of Mogersdorf successful. He was then in French and Swedish service, and finally in the Bavarian army.
