Philip Frederick of the Palatinate

Philipp of the Palatinate ( born September 16, 1627 The Hague, † December 16, 1650 in Rethel ) was a Palatine Prince and Count Palatine of the Rhine from the line of Pfalz- simmering.

Life

Philip was a son of the Elector Frederick V of the Palatinate (1596-1632) from his marriage to Elizabeth Stuart (1596-1662), daughter of King James I of England. Philip was born in The Hague, where his parents had fled after the loss of the Bohemian crown. Philip was partly educated at the French court, sent at the request of his elder brother Karl Ludwig back to The Hague to his mother. Karl Ludwig gave him an order of the English Parliament, levy troops in Venice and lead to England. On June 21, 1646 he was murdered in The Hague on the open road the Marquis de l' Epinay, his mother a favorite and fled to the States General. His mother never spoke to him again and did not recognize him as their son.

Philip stood in Lorraine military services, and fell as a rider Colonel unmarried in the wars of the Fronde at the battle of Rethel. His remains were moved to Sedan and buried in the grave place of the Dukes of Bouillon the parish church of Saint Charles.
