Philippe Boesmans

Philippe Boesman ( born May 17, 1936 in Tongeren ) is a Belgian composer and organist.

Philippe Boesman studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Liège ( Conservatoire Royal de Liège). As a composer Philippe Boesman is a self-taught. His first compositions date from 1960, after he inspired contacts with Pierre Froidebise, Henri Pousseur, Célestin Deliège ( 1922-2010 ) and André Souris ( 1899-1970 ) at the moment. Since 1985 he has been resident composer of the opera La Monnaie in Brussels, on whose behalf he composed several operas. His works are regularly on the relevant festivals, in Darmstadt, Warsaw, Zagreb, Brussels, Royan, Metz and Avignon programs.

  • The Winter's Tale (1999); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie -Louise Bischofberger based on the play The Winter's Tale ( The Winter's Tale ) by William Shakespeare. Premiere December 10, 1999, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Brussels; German premiere: Staatstheater Braunschweig 2001.
  • Julie ( opera ) (2005 ); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie -Louise Bischofberger after the piece Froken Julie by August Strindberg. German premiere at the Staatstheater Braunschweig 2006.
  • Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne (2009); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie -Louise Bischofberger after the piece Iwona księżniczka Burgunda (German Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy ) by Witold Gombrowicz.
  • Orchestration for modern instruments for the opera L' incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi. German premiere at the Staatstheater Braunschweig 2006.
