Philippe-François-Joseph Le Bas

Philippe -François -Joseph Le Bas or Lebas (* November 4, 1764 in Frévent; † July 28, 1794 in Paris) was a member of the National Convention during the French Revolution.

Policy

He belonged to the radical Montagnards by Maximilien de Robespierre, and was at the height of the Reign of Terror Member of the Safety Committee. In this committee, he was (next to Jacques -Louis David) as one of the few unconditional followers of Robespierre. Le Bas took on July 28, 1794 ( 10 Thermidor II of the French Republican Calendar ) by a gun 's life after he and his political friends from the French National Convention had been outlawed and only had to await the guillotine.

With Louis Antoine de Saint -Just, who also died on the 10th Thermidor II, he formed a friendship. Le Bas was married to Elisabeth Duplay, the daughter of Maurice Duplay, attended the Robespierre in the Rue Honoré sublet. From this marriage came out Philippe Le Bas (1794-1860), who later became President of the Institut de France.
