Philippe Gille
Philippe Gille ( pron. Shield ') ( born December 10, 1831 in Paris, † March 20, 1901 ) was a French playwright and journalist.
First, Gillespie worked as a sculptor. Soon he also wrote the text for the stage presentation, often with Labiche, Meilhac or Gondinet. Especially his librettos derived 1883 Gondinet for Delibes opera " Lakmé " and 1884 with Meilhac for the opera " Manon " by Massenet became known. The text for the one-act play " Les Charbonniers " for the Coste (1877 ) and " Camille " (1890 ) wrote the music. originates solely from him. Gille wrote reviews for the literature part of the " Figaro ," in which he spoke out against naturalism since 1875, and which were later republished in several anthologies, including " Battaille littéraire " ( 1889-91, four volumes, Volume 1 covers 1875 -1878 ), " Causeries sur l' art et les artistes " ( 1894) and " Causeries du mercredi " ( 1897). For the Figaro, he also wrote theater chronicles under the pseudonym Le Masque.
