Phintias (painter)

Phintias ( Φιντιάς ancient Greek ) was a Greek potter and vase painter who belonged with Euphronios and Euthymides the most important representatives of the so-called pioneer group of red-figure vase painting. From the period 525-510 BC, ten different works have survived with his signature, seven of which painting and pottery are three.

The beginnings of Phintias are still in the " Vorpionier - time ", which is why his painting style probably a bit old-fashioned acts as those of the other representatives of the pioneer group. Influences of the early representatives of the red-figure painting as Psiax and Oltos are unmistakable. Some techniques of black-figure painting as the crevices of the contours or ornamental strips in the black-figure style he used even during the pioneer days. His drawings are referred to as clear, simple, accurate and precise, but also uninspired, stress and a bit stiff.

The repertoire of the Phintias other hand, is plentiful. He draws everyday scenes as Hetärensymposien and music lessons as well as mythological scenes. Also, the repertoire of painted vases from him forms is rich. He painted, among others, amphorae, hydria, Kylikes and Peliken. Like the other major representatives of the pioneer group, he wrote many of his vases. Even some of his supporters as Euphronios and the Sosias painter he exhibited his works on dar.
