Phloroglucincarbonsäure (2,4,6- trihydroxybenzoic acid ) is an aromatic compound which is derived both from the benzoic acid and of phloroglucinol (1,3,5- trihydroxybenzene ). The structure consists of a benzene ring with an attached carboxy (-COOH ), and three hydroxyl groups (-OH) as a substituent. It belongs to the group of Trihydroxybenzoesäuren.
If cultures of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus grown on ( ) -catechin as sole carbon source, they build from this to Phloroglucincarbonsäure and excrete it out. A. calcoaceticus is part of the human intestinal flora.
Phloroglucincarbonsäure was also detected in wine.
