Photographer

Photographer or Photographer (also Lichtbildner ) is a nationally recognized training occupation. Photographers make static or moving images for different purposes. The preamble includes, for example professions such as architecture, photography, event photography, industrial photography, motion picture photography, aerial photography, fashion photography, portrait photography, press photography, product photography, reportage photography, still photography, underwater photography, advertising photography, scientific photography, etc.

Professional practice and activities

Photographer hold the camera firmly individual impressions of man or nature, of events or objects. They often specialize in an area such as portraits, advertising, press or scientific photography. You control the whole process of photographic products from brainstorming and planning, lighting and staging to final processing of the resulting images for all playback options. Photographers are self-employed, are in the photographic industry or in public institutions operate. Large newspaper companies employ their own press photographers. Sometimes they are also in the photo retail or engaged in large industrial laboratories and plan studios. In addition, press services and agencies, image archive services, advertising and media agencies and film and television offer employment opportunities.

The quality of the recordings is largely based on experience and preparation work. Camera, film, lens, lighting, and the subject must be harmonized. Training

Germany

In addition to the traditional artisan

  • State-approved vocational education with final examination as a journeyman or
  • HWK - audit

There is the possibility purely school education:

  • Final examination at a vocational school in Germany or
  • Artistic study at a university ( academy, art school ) or college or
  • A scientific study of photographic technique in photolithography engineers Bachelor of Engineering ( B.Eng.).

Further education

After a basal photographic training is the possibility of continuing education to master in photography or through a continuing education course at a technical college to become a certified technician specializing in photography.

In the field of art, there are as continuing the Master of Arts (MA), the artistic master class or a master student studying.

In the scientific field, there is the Master of Engineering ( M.Eng. ).

Switzerland

Trained photographer

The teaching about the photographer takes in Switzerland four years.

Dipl. Photo Designer

In addition to the photography course there is also the possibility of training to / for dipl. Photo Designer / in a higher professional examination. Profession and job title

The profession 's view of the Chamber of Crafts, which has to perform in accordance with § 19 HwO a separate directory. Is a prerequisite for entry into the trades that the activity is operated craft and moderately in the list (Appendix B, Section 1 of the Crafts Code ) is detected.

Photographer in the narrower sense is the professional title of the light generator. The job of a light generator, now called a photographer, is in Germany, in Austria and in Switzerland a job title, which is awarded by a regulated vocational training. Professional photographer of with a different education lead accordingly other protected professional titles such as Diploma Photo designers, photo technician or photo designer ( state certified ). The professional designations master photographer, Staatl. certified technician and the title of Master can be performed only after an appropriate vocational training and additional training; they are protected (FS- order and Crafts Code § 51, § 117).

In contrast, the designations Photo Designers, image maker, a photojournalist, a photojournalist, picture reporter or photo graphic designers are not protected.

Since 1 January 2004, the profession is one of Germany according to Appendix B of the Crafts Code on the license-free professions ( § 18 para 2), which means that professional photography can be exercised even without proof of a master craftsman. Due to the amendment of the Crafts Code also self-taught may not engage in the commercial professional photography. Without journeyman degree but they are allowed to be called a photographer, but may not form ( HwO ). Of these, the image-maker journalistic or artistic make remain unaffected.

In Austria, the term professional photographer since commencing December 18, 2013 to the free trades after the Constitutional Court held on November 27, 2013, that the § previously applicable 94 Z 20 Industrial Code 1994 ( regulated trade professional photographer ) the infringement of the right to freedom acquisition activity was unconstitutional. A limitation of the trade could be in the age of digital photography no longer hold (about the handling of chemicals ) through the once leading to restriction reasons.
