Phú Quốc

Phú Quốc is the largest island of Vietnam and in the Gulf of Thailand (Gulf of Siam). Phú Quốc has an area of 568 km ² and 70,000 inhabitants. The capital of the island is located on the west coast place Đồng Dương. Compared to other Vietnamese islands of Phu Quoc has a very good infrastructure, because in addition to Phu Quoc International Airport, there are several ports, some paved roads, but also unpaved wide dust slopes, banks, a hospital, a post office and police station and a small interesting market.

Management

Geography

The island lies about 40 km off the southwest coast of Vietnam, 48 km long and 3-28 km wide. However Nearer is just 12 km away Cambodian mainland with the Cardamom Mountains ( Chuor Phnom Kravanh ). History

Like the archipelago Côn Đạo Phú Quốc also has a painful past as an island prison camp. The French had built in the south of the island a prison complex, which was later taken over by the Americans and are used by these South Vietnamese government. It bears the name " Coconut Tree Prison". Today, the complex is now a museum. After the fall of Saigon in 1975, the island fell again in the headlines of the world public. Wildlife

The native Phú Quốc Phu Quoc on Ridgeback is Vietnam's hunting dog. Peculiarity of this breed is the coat on the back, which forms the shape of ridges; that is, the hair will grow opposite to the normal direction of hair growth.

Attractions

  • Since 2001, large parts of the island, particularly the mountainous and forested North, declared a national park. On the existing roads and dust trails can well go through this almost pristine wilderness and enjoy the lush and tranquil forests.
  • A few kilometers south of Duong Dong there are two sources ( Suoi Da Ban Suoi Tranh and ), load it with clear water swirls and pools for swimming, but also for picnicking. Traffic

  • By air: There are daily flights from Hanoi, Saigon, Can Tho and Rach Gia. Flight time Saigon - Phu Quoc International is approximately one hour.
