Phylica is a genus of the family of the buckthorn family ( Rhamnaceae ). It includes some 150 -based mostly in southern Africa species.
Description
Phylica are evergreen dwarf shrubs, rarely small trees. Its leaves are alternate to one another, stipules absent.
The bisexual flowers are in tight, capitate thyrsi and have extremely hairy bracts on. The projecting beyond the ovary flower cups is bell-shaped to cylindrical, a discussion can be present or absent. Unlike many genera of the family petals are usually present. The ovary is inferior and dreifächrig. The fruits are fruits explosion, arillat the seeds.
Distribution and systematics
The Phylica include about 150 species. Distribution area is southern Africa to the south of Tanzania and Madagascar, some species are found but also to the South Atlantic to the sub-Antarctic islands. Within the buckthorn plants it is classified in the tribe Rhamneae. The types include:
