Physella acuta

The peak bladder worm ( Physella acuta ) is a freshwater snail from the family of the lungs, bladder snails ( Physidae ).

Features

The housing is eight to 12 mm high and five to seven millimeters wide. The left-handed housing has six whorls, the apex is pointed. The thin but solid shell is yellowish horn color. The right-side extension casing engages over the housing. Peak bladder snails are hermaphrodites

Habitat and Distribution

The peak bladder snail inhabited flowing and still waters, the water quality it makes no special claims. Their natural habitat is the southern Europe and Africa. It was probably introduced by the water plant trade to North America. In many regions of Spain it is the most common freshwater snail.

By suspension, is everywhere in Germany. Physella acuta is an indicator organism for water quality class III, heavily soiled.
