Piano Concerto No. 1 (Bartók)

The Piano Concerto No. 1, Sz 83, BB 91, is a 1926 arisen work for piano and orchestra by the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók.

Formation

Bartók wrote the play as the last of 1926, in which he showed a record high productivity, and it premiered on July 1, 1927 in Frankfurt with the ISCM Festival Orchestra under Wilhelm Furtwängler. This occurred at the fifth Festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music. With this work, its creator has announced a shift to the "classical" forms.

About the Music

In the composition Bartók attacked while back to the richly developed in the 19th century, the form of the concerto, but avoided any linkage with the style and aesthetic of the romantic piano concerto. The concert recalls the aesthetic attitude rather of Ludwig van Beethoven's works, after which the clear-cut, simple, but produce dynamic theme as well as the energy associated with a precise and strong design point. The rhythm represents the most prominent element, as was the case already in the Sonata.

Allegro moderato

The first movement opens with the repetition of a sound, then break out of the many melodic motifs. The bass sound of the piano accompanies persistent drumbeats and the Brass Con sordino. It sounds over time, the simple melody of the introduction, which is played by woodwinds. Finally, the main theme in a different diatonic octaves and played emerges from the percussion -like strokes played the piano. However, the first section presents only the repetition of a sound and there are very simple melodic motifs. The further development of this theme is designed by the rhythm. The characteristically rough, jocular side issue arises with a simple rhythm against it. Again appears at the end of the exposition, the first theme, but with altered interval sequences. In carrying out the melody of the introduction from the piano again and again in the other, sharp harmonization and in ever- accelerating pace is spun. In the climax of the motives of the first theme recur. The Rough of the sound it reaches its peak. Even " brutal " than the exposure sounds the recapitulation. The second issue contains a rhythmic deformation by the variable meter 2/4 and 3/4.

Andante

The second set is compared to the previous concert literature a completely different and unusual music represents, both in the design of the sound - with the exception of the middle section, the piano is accompanied only by percussion instruments - as well as in the shape of the main idea. It is based on the playing of various tones and harmonies in 3/8-Rhythmus. A short Allegro consisting of rhythmic sounds of percussion instruments and glissando trombones leads into the last sentence.

Allegro molto

The third movement is joyous and spirited. In the piano part the main theme in the light evenly pulsating fourth chords in the strings, similar to the first set because of the long repeat only a sound appears. This repetition is then taken over by horns and timpani, on the piano weaves a melodic part of the theme in alternating diatonic. The theme is basically just a constant refrain from clay with slight variations. The brass instruments play an important role in this set, so they take together with the piano the second theme, which was previously introduced, and develop these melodic motifs continue in ever different versions.
