Piano Red

Willie Perryman (* October 19, 1911 in Hampton, Georgia; † 25 July 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia) was an American blues pianist and singer, who was also known as Piano Red and Dr. Feelgood.

Like his brother Rufus, who appeared as Speckled Red and albums recorded, was Willie Perryman albino. From a young age he played in honky tonks and juke joints in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

In the 1930s, Perryman joined with Blind Willie McTell to as "The Dixie Jazz Hounds ". In 1936, she made ​​together recordings that have not been published. From this period dates his nickname " Piano Red ".

In 1950 he had with Rockin 'with Red a huge hit, which is regarded by many as an early rock ' n 'roll record and was later re-recorded by a number of well known artists, including Little Richard, Little Jimmy Dickens and Jerry Lee Lewis. Other hits of " Piano Red " were Red's Boogie, The Wrong Yo Yo, Laying the Boogie and Just Right Bounce.

In the early 1960s made ​​Willie Perryman recordings under the name " Dr. Feelgood & the Interns ". The piece Doctor Feel-Good made ​​it in 1962 in the pop music charts.

In the 1970s and early 1980s Perryman repeatedly went on tour in Europe. He also played at the inauguration of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and supported the election campaign of U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

1984 was diagnosed with Willie Perryman cancer, he died the following year.
