Piccolo Quintet

Piccolo Quintet is the short name of a Quintet for Piccolo and String Quartet by Graham Waterhouse. The work was premiered in 1989 composed 1990. 2002 Zimmermann Musikverlag published the work under the title " Quintet, Op 26 for piccolo, 2 violins, viola and cello ."

History

The composer Graham Waterhouse, 1989 was a cellist in the orchestra at the Schleswig -Holstein Music Festival, which was then headed by Sergiu Celibidache. The piccolo player of the orchestra inspired a quintet composition, Celibidache influenced the work. The one-movement quintet of about 16 minutes appears in sonata form, framed by a slow introduction that changed at the end again, and then opens into a virtuosic coda. The timbre of the piccolo is similarly connected to the strings as in clarinet quintets. The quintet was listed on 1 January 1990 in London at a private concert.

The quintet was published in 2002 in the Zimmermann Musikverlag. It was listed in Munich on 13 October 2002, as part of 1st Sergiu Celibidache Festival concert in a conversation, in which the composer described the influence Celibidache on the work. It made ​​music Katharina Kutnewsky, Daniel Nodel, Anja Traub, Gunter Pretzel and the composer.

On 5 October 2003, the quintet was listed in Gasteig chamber concert in Graham Waterhouse, played by Ulrich Biersack, Odette bed, Kirsty Hilton, Isabel Charisius and the composer.

The Quintet was recorded in 2007 by Gudrun Hinze and other members of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra on CD, and appeared under the title piccolo concert, among others, combined with Antonio Vivaldi 's Concerto for flautino, RV 443, and Erwin Schulhoff's Concertino.
