Piero de Ponte

Fra ' Piero de Ponte ( also Perin Dupont or Pierino, Pietrino, Pierre or Pietro del Ponte, born August 26, 1462 Piedmont, † November 18, 1535 ) was from 26 August 1534 to his death in 1535 of 45. Grandmaster of the Order of Malta and took over on November 10, 1534 his duties in Malta.

During his tenure, further extensions of the fortifications took place.

He paid close attention to discipline and conduct of members of the Order.

Through the use of the galley fleet of the Order, he supported Emperor Charles V in the war against Tunis and secured by his possessions.

In 1535, it was by the increase in population in Malta a grain shortage, the Ponte wanted to fix imports from Sicily, and Sicily as the contracts are not fulfilled, he forced Sicilian ships in the port of Malta to sell their grain cargo.

Ponte was buried in the chapel of Notre- Dame de victories in Fort St. Angelo in Birgu and later in the crypt of the monastery church of St. John, the present-day St. John's Co- Cathedral in Valletta, reburied.
