Pierre Bézier

Pierre Étienne Bézier [ be'zje ] ( born September 1, 1910 in Paris, † 25 November 1999) was a French engineer of Arts et Métiers ParisTech.

In the 1960s, he described the Bezier curve, which was used at his former employer Renault for the design of body shapes and later for NURBS a fundamental tool of the CGI was.

He began in 1933 to work at Renault and stayed there 42 years. In 1960 he started at the CAD-/CAM-Programm UNISURF to work, which in 1968 was used. Since 1975 UNISURF is fully utilized. In 1977 he received from the Sorbonne University the degree of Doctor of mathematics.

The Bezier curve has proven to be extremely practical method of describing curves in computer programs. Bezier curves are constructed from relatively few " nodes ", where the type of the node, for example, symmetric or pointed, and the direction and " direction intensity " of the branching lines are given as " additional information".
