Pierre Bosquet

Pierre -François -Joseph Bosquet ( born November 8, 1810 in Mont -de- Marsan, Landes, † February 5, 1861 in Pau ) was a Marshal of France and fought in Algeria and in the Crimean War.

Life

Bosquet was formed on the École Polytechnique in Paris and at the Application School Metz. He joined in 1834 as a second lieutenant in the Army in Algeria. In 1847 he was colonel of a line infantry regiment. In 1848 he was given command of the Subdivision Orléansville and in August of the same year he was appointed brigadier general. As such, it opened in 1851 the campaign against the Kabyles with the storming of the pass over the Menegal.

In August 1853 promoted to major general, he was given command of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Eastern Army at the outbreak of the Crimean War. In the battle of the Alma, he decided the victory by ascended held by the Russians for inaccessible heights in its left wing. As commander of a corps of observation, which had to fend off a relief attack on the besiegers before Sebastopol, he contributed significantly to the results of the battle of Balaklava and the Battle of Inkerman, where the harried by the superiority of English were saved by his timely appearance.

After his return Bosquet was appointed Senator, and on 18 March 1856 Marshal of France in February 1856, received in 1858 the High Command in Toulouse. He died after a long illness on February 5, 1861.
