Pierre Bourdelot

Pierre Michon Bourdelot ( born February 2, 1610 Senlis, † February 9, 1685 ) was a French physician and anatomist, libertine and freethinker. Bourdelot received in his Cercle 1664-1684 many scientists, merchants or other interested parties.

Life

Bourdelot studied at the Sorbonne ( 1629) and traveled to Rome from 1634 when he accompanied François de Noailles. 1638 he returned to France and became a doctor in the house of Condé. As an uncle died, he inherited a lot of books and manuscripts. In 1641 he founded the Académie Bourdelot, a circle for scientists, philosophers and writers who met twice a month. When Louis II de Bourbon, prince de Condé was arrested against the absolutism of Jules Mazarin because of his faction, he departed; 1652 he was in Stockholm, as Christina of Sweden had many mental and physical problems. Bourdelot had on them with his jokes and poems of Pietro Aretino much influence. Within four weeks, he healed them. Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie and Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg were horrified by his behavior or thoughts and Bourdelot came back in 1653.

Bourdelot was appointed as abbot of Macé from you. As Melchisédech Thévenot relocated to Issy, he resumed his activities in the Academy again. Every Monday, he was visited by many scientists in his house in the Rue de Tournon. Nicolas Steno, Ole Borch (1626-1690), Reinier de Graaf, Joseph Guichard Duverney (1648-1730) provided criticism on Aristotle and Galen in his Académie des curieux de la nature.
