Pierre Cohen

Pierre Cohen ( born March 20, 1950 in Bizerte, Tunisia ) is a French politician of the Parti Socialiste. Since the local elections on May 21, 2008 he has been mayor of Toulouse.

Biography

As the son of a French Catholic and a Jewish soldier from Tunisia, which he claimed Germany, later followed by Mazamet 1958, Cohen made ​​18 years his Bac, which is equivalent to a German Abitur. He completed his studies at the Paul Sabatier University with a doctorate in computer science and then worked until his retirement in 1972 as an engineer at IRIT.

In 1974, Cohen joined the Parti Socialiste.

From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the Council of the municipality of Ramon Ville- Saint -Agne and was from 1989 to 2008 the mayor. From 1986 to 1992 he was a member of the Regional Council of Midi -Pyrenees. Since 1997 he represents as a deputy to the third constituency of the department of Haute -Garonne in the French National Assembly, for which he most recently on June 17, 2007 in the 13th legislative period - his third overall - was re-elected.
