Pierre David de Colbert-Chabanais

Pierre David de Colbert - Chabanais (* October 18, 1774 in Paris, † December 28, 1853 ) was a French general of division of cavalry.

Life

Colbert Chabanais was a son of the Maréchal de camp Louis Henri Colbert (1737-1792) and his second wife Marie -Jeanne David ( → Family Colbert ). His maternal grandfather was the former director of the Senegal Company Pierre Félix David ( 1710-1795 ).

On August 23, 1793 Colbert Chabanais stepped on request of his father in the army. He fought in the revolutionary wars and could soon distinguished by bravery. Under the leadership of General Jean -Baptiste Kléber, he helped put down the rebellion in the Vendée.

As a partisan of Napoleon Colbert - Chabanais 1798 reported as a volunteer for the campaign to Egypt. He was wounded and came after his recovery as aide- de-camp to General François- Étienne Damas in his staff. In 1803 he moved to the same position to General Andoche Junot.

After subsequent promotions Colbert Chabanais came to Marshal Louis Alexandre Berthier and fought bravely under whose leadership at Austerlitz (2 December 1805). There he was again wounded, but was able to come back and in the battles of Jena (14 October 1806) and Pultusk (December 26 1806) participate.

There were other promotions and in 1809 fought Colbert Chabanais bravely under the command of Marshal Charles Nicolas Oudinot before Raab (14 June 1809) and Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ).

1811 took over Colbert Chabanais a command of the Imperial Guard and thus took part in the Russian campaign in 1812. He fought against Borodino (7 September 1812) and on the Berezina ( 26-28. November 1812 ).

Also at the battles of Bautzen ( 20-21. May 1813 ), Montmirail (11 February 1814), Champ Aubert (10 February 1814) and Montereau (18 February 1814), he took part.

After the battle of Paris (30 May 1814) and the abdication of Napoleon (→ Treaty of Fontainebleau ) Colbert - Chabanais sided with the Bourbons. But when Napoleon left the island of Elba and the " rule of the Hundred Days " began, he immediately ran back over to the emperor. After the battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815) Colbert Chabanais was imprisoned, but was in the same year again.

Over ten years of Colbert Chabanais was suspended and was until 1826 in charge neither with military duties. In 1834 he came with the rank of aide- de-camp to Louis d' Orléans, duc de Nemours and accompanied him on his 1836 expedition to Constantine. On 31 January 1840, he left the staff of Louis d' Orléans, and retired into private life. Officially, he was released on 1 January 1853 in retirement. At the age of 79 years, Pierre David de Colbert - Chabanais died on 28 December 1853 in Paris and found his final resting place.
