Pierre de La Broce

Called Pierre de la Brosse, or de la Broce, (lat: Peter de Brocia, † June 30, 1278 in Paris) was a favorite and chamberlain of King Philip III. of France.

De la Brosse came from the lower nobility of Touraine and has already served in the administration at the court of King Louis IX. in lower position. Compared to King Philip III. he became the favorite and influential adviser. He used his position above all to Protegierung closest family members and self- enrichment, which he incurred the displeasure of the high nobility. The Queen Mary of Brabant was the biggest rival of De la Brosse for influence over the king.

1278 De la Brosse crashed in the favor of the king, after this incriminating letters, whose contents are unknown today, were leaked. Presumably De la Brosse was it accused of murder by poisoning in the late 1276 thirteen- year-old Crown Prince Ludwig. Anyway tried De la Brosse it to load the queen with this fact, because this would secure the throne for her own children, while Prince Ludwig stood by as her stepson in the way. However, the queen could successfully against Philip III. defend, while De la Brosse was dropped from him. Without any trial, he was hanged on June 30, 1278 in Paris on the gallows of Montfaucon.

The fall of Pierre de la Brosse was discussed in medieval poetry in France two poetic works. They were published in 1835 by Achille Jubinal first time.

Also he finds in Dante's Divine Comedy ( Purgatorio, Canto VI) mention where their soul is on the sixth terrace of the mountain purification because of its excessiveness.
