Pierre-Gabriel Buffardin

Pierre -Gabriel Buffardin (* 1690 in the Provence, † 1768) was an important French flute virtuoso of the Baroque.

Buffardin was appointed on 26 November 1715 solo flutist of the Saxon royal - electoral orchestra in Dresden, where he remained until 1749. Buffardin was four months teacher of Johann Joachim Quantz. Moreover, it was also Johann Jacob Bach, a brother of Johann Sebastian Bach, his pupil, whom he had met in Constantinople Opel. From Quantz are statements that highlight the extraordinary virtuosity of his playing. Buffardin must have delighted at the Saxon court great esteem, as his salary was doubled in 1741.

As the only authentic secure work is considered his " Flute Sonata ". Attributed to him is also a " Concerto for Flute in E Minor ".
