Pierre La Mure

Pierre La Mure ( born June 15, 1899 in Nice, † December 28, 1976 in California ) was a French writer.

Life

Pierre La Mure was born on 15 June 1899 in Nice. Later he studied law at the University of Aix -en- Provence and at the Sorbonne.

La Mure wrote a number of world-renowned biographical novels. First, he wrote in 1937 the book King of the Night, which is about the life of John D. Rockefeller. He lived until the Second World War in France and immigrated to the United States then. Moulin Rouge, which was based on the life of Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec, was his first resounding success. The novel was filmed in 1952 by John Huston and the film won two Oscars later. His other works treated respectively the lives of Cecile and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as by Claude Debussy. Little is known about the later life of the writer. He died in 1976 at the age of 76 years in California.
