Pieter de Jode I

Pieter de Jode the Elder ( * 1570 in Antwerp, † August 9, 1634 in Antwerp ) was a Dutch engraver and publisher.

Life

Pieter de Jode formed after his father Gerrit de Jode († 1599) and after Hendrick Goltzius and then went to Italy, where he worked in Siena and Rome. In 1601 he was back in Antwerp, where he became one of the most important engraver and graphics publishers.

He stabbed after Titian ( Betrothal of St. Catherine ), Jean Cousin ( The Last Judgement ), Peter Paul Rubens ( handing over the keys to Peter ), Anthony van Dyck, who received him in his iconography, etc. In its publisher appeared in 1606 's Metamorphoses working in Rome, eraser Antonio Tempesta.

A short time he also worked with his son Pieter in Paris. He died in 1634 in Antwerp.
