Pieter Willem Korthals
Pieter Willem Korthals ( born September 1, 1807 in Amsterdam, † February 8, 1892 in Haarlem ) was a Dutch botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " Korth. ".
Life and work
Korthals was a plant collector in Malaysia's. He was from 1831 to 1836, the official botanist voor Nederlandsch Indië in Natuurkundige Commissie ( Natural History Commission for the Dutch East Indies. In his 1840-1844 published work " Verhandelingen over de natuurlijke geschiedenis Nederlandsche overzeesche bezittingen. Botanie " he described as the first can traps of carnivorous plants in the genus of pitcher plants ( Nepenthes ).
Ehrentaxa
The genera Korthalsella Tiegh. from the plant family of Sandelholzgewächse ( Santalaceae ) and Korthalsia flower from the plant the palm family ( Arecaceae ) are named after him.
