Pieter Wispelwey

Pieter Wispelwey ( born September 25, 1962 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch cellist. He grew up in Santpoort and moved to Amsterdam at age 19. He studied there with Dicky Boeke and Anner Bylsma and later with Paul Katz in the USA and William Pleeth in the UK.

His first album played in 1990, the six cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach, for which he was ever honored as principal cellist with the Dutch Music Prize. Since then he has added 20 more CDs, the repertoire includes the cello literature of Johann Sebastian Bach to Britten.
