Piketberg is a town in the municipality Bergrivier, district, West Coast, Western Cape Province in South Africa. It is located about 133 kilometers north of Cape Town at the intersection of the N7 with the R44 at the foot of the Piketberg Mountains; highest point is there the Zebrakop 1,459 meters above sea level. The city has 12,075 inhabitants ( 2011).

The city's name means mountain outpost. Piketberg was one of the outposts, where the farmers of the area were warned of attack or other hazards by the firing of a cannon. The cannon can be visited on the Piketberg High School today. The foundation of the city was in 1836, when Sir Benjamin D'Urban Church donated the farm Grotefontein. After the construction of the church, the city developed around them. Today the city is the administrative center of the municipality Bergrivier.

The city is situated in a winter rainfall region. The average rainfall is 430 mm per year, the average temperature is 24 ° C.
