Piotta, Switzerland

Piotta is a village in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It belongs to the political community Quinto.

As the neighboring village Ambri Piotta remains for several winter months without sun. Piotta is known along with Ambri thanks mainly to his Hockey Club ( HC Ambri -Piotta ), which plays in the National League A and thus is known at national level. In Piotta the steepest funicular railway in Europe is ( maximum gradient 87.8 %), which connects the bottom with the Ritomsee in Piora Valley.
